Kolbe Begins Breakthrough Middle School Study with Kansas Department of Education

This October, nearly 700 students in Kansas will complete the Kolbe Y™ Index for a landmark study on the benefits of using Kathy Kolbe's processes in the classroom. Students who are given their Kolbe Y Index results, and use Kolbe learning tools, will be compared in productivity and self-efficacy to students who will not get their Kolbe Y Index results until the end of the semester.

Kathy describes this study as a "dream come true," especially with the strong support of the state superintendent, the school principal and teachers. The Center for Conative Abilities, Kolbe's non-profit, has provided a $30,000 grant to cover all the costs, and the University of Kansas has agreed to allow the school's principal to use the study data for a doctoral dissertation.

Kathy has been working with educators in Kansas for more than a decade, and praises them for having involved school board members, hundreds of teachers, state department specialists, and administrators at all levels in using and understanding the conative dimension of the mind. She states, "The tenacity of the professionals we have trained in Kansas provides a role model for how cooperative efforts can lead to innovation in classrooms."

There is now enough Kolbe expertise in Kansas to make this a highly effective analysis of the impact to students when they know how to use their conative strengths to succeed. According to Kathy, "Part of the beauty of this study will be the ability to debunk perceptions about some learning disabilities and to improve the way students, parents, and teachers communicate." Just imagine the possibilities if ALL students knew their Kolbe M.O.
