Kolbe Training

It must be those brief April showers in Phoenix that sprouted all the training seminars lined up in May and beyond. First comes the annual Professional Growth Seminar for certified consultants scheduled for May 6-7 in Scottsdale where a record attendance is expected. On the front end of that event, Kathy Kolbe will be sharing the first-ever Powered by Instinct seminar to a registered group of licensed consultants.

Certification training is the artery carrying new blood into the worldwide organization. We will be offering not one, but three different sessions in the month of May. The first will be in London, England on May 19-21, followed by two seminars on May 24-26, one in Phoenix and the other in Zagreb, Croatia. While the latter session is closed, there are openings both in Phoenix and London for those who wish to take this next step to full implementation of the Kolbe technology in their lives and businesses.

July 21-23 will find another certification seminar being offered in La Jolla, CA, a slightly more attractive venue than Phoenix in mid-summer. By now readers should have received an invitation to the Perfectly Capable Kids seminar that Kathy is launching on Saturday, July 24 in California. Designed for parents and teachers, this session is packed with unique strategies for igniting the capabilities of youngsters 2 to 15 years old and will introduce a brand-new assessment tool, the Kolbe Kid Index. Questions for Kathy Kolbe

Question: If you have the wrong instincts (MO) to do a job, will your learned skills or knowledge be able to produce a positive result?

Answer: Anybody familiar with the Kolbe Concept® knows that the result of someone's Kolbe Index is not a measure of what she can do, but rather how she goes about doing it. Learned behavior can certainly give you an approach to problem solving that can make for a successful conclusion to a short- term problem. Because experience does count, it can be the basis for keeping you in the game for a certain period of time.

It's when the task extends itself for longer periods of time that having the right instincts for the job is vital to productivity. Research shows that you simply won't do your best job when you're working against the grain rather than in your groove. Additional fallout from this kind of mismatch is demonstrated through a related increase in stress and a corresponding direct connection to absenteeism and turnover in the workplace. Check with Kolbe Corp if you'd like to explore this theme further.

Procrastination Redux

This is a topic that keeps coming around, but have you noticed how many articles are being written on the subject lately? Fine, procrastination exists; it's sometimes a serious problem with monetary and social implications.

But there are some difficult pieces for Kolbe consultants to accept. A recent article ( http://www.azcentral.com/php- bin/clicktrack/email.php/1272961> http://www.azcentral.com/php- bin/clicktrack/email.php/1272961) says that some people claim they perform best under pressure of a deadline, but that's artificial or just an excuse. "They're rationalizing," says Timothy Pychyl, a professor of psychology and director of the Procrastination Research Group at Carleton College in Ottawa. "They're working hard. They're not happy."

Timothy has obviously never met the combination of preventative Follow Thrus and initiating Quick Starts for whom the last minute solution is their life- blood. "Happy" is getting to do it your way, not following someone else's sense of the appropriate time to take action. The article further identifies procrastination as being part of human nature, but then doesn't see anything wrong in advising us to go against our very essence. This is an article worth reading - when you get around to it.
