As all certified Kolbe consultants know, Kathy's latest
book Powered by Instinct: 5 Rules for Trusting
Your
Guts had a very auspicious launch. Based on
what can
only be attributed to pent up demand, the
book
reached #2 on the Business bestseller list and #17
overall on Amazon.com before its official
launch date of
October 1. There were other signs of strength as well:
based on activity on a given day, it showed up as #1
on Amazon's "Movers & Shakers" list (who knew there
was such a thing?).
Now comes the hard part calling for patience and
tenacity as the grinding work of marketing the book
takes over. How many of you have walked into a
bookstore recently? There are literally thousands, or
tens of thousands, of offerings out there and faced
with falling back into the pack and getting lost, only
effort, luck and continuous support from the core
believers keep the prospects for a single book high. TV
and radio interviews, book signings, public lectures and
published articles are all part of the arsenal being
employed to make a difference.
Thanks for all you've done so far.
Should you have
ideas for marketing the book more effectively, please
share them. We all benefit from the increased visibility.

Greetings!
Based on the quote below, it is only fitting that
Abraham Maslow's official biographer, Dr. Edward
Hoffman, has identified Kathy Kolbe as having had
Maslow's torch passed to her. Self
actualization is at
the core of the Kolbe philosophy and Kathy's
work is all
about helping people key into their natural way of
problem solving by trusting their instincts.

Quote of the Month
"Many people live in a world that never lets them
discover their true abilities."

The Strategic Coach®
When Will Rapp was presenting a Kolbe Certification™
program in Australia recently, one of the participants
quickly introduced himself as a member of The
Strategic Coach ("TSC"). A program with an
awesome presence in the US and Canada, its members
are now found around the globe. There has to be some
incredible value in a program that puts a guy on a plane
for 20 hours each way from Sydney to Chicago to
attend TSC's quarterly sessions.
And, of course, there is. Based on the genius of Dan
Sullivan, the basic three-year program liberates
successful entrepreneurs to be their most productive
selves. From the compatibility of Unique Ability™
with Natural Advantage™ and beyond,
TSC
philosophy is a perfect fit with Kolbe Wisdom.
This is
assuredly the reason that both companies share an
extraordinary number of clients, and why we have had
key members of our staff become TSC members.
David Kolbe, President of Kolbe Corp and himself a
member of Strategic Coach says, "The value
of the
Strategic Coach program starts at the personal level,
but it extends far beyond that. The program
has
helped me channel my professional and personal
efforts, and we've also seen great response from our
employees when we've introduced TSC planning tools
as part of our own project management."
For those successful entrepreneurs who are ready for a
big jump in their professional
endeavors and personal
lifestyle, TSC offers a methodology that is working for
thousands of their peers. If you'd like to enhance
Stage Two of your life, check out
The Strategic Coach
programs by visiting their website.

Ask Kathy Online
This column is normally reserved for Kathy's response
to a question of general interest from one of our
readers. This month, however, it's devoted to a
description of Kathy's online diary and the opportunity
for you to engage her there and get an immediate
response for your pressing concerns or issues.
"Blogging." It's a word that's too new to be
found in your
dictionary. Check online, however, and you'll
find that
it derives from the words "web log" and usually
defines
a personal diary with stream of consciousness
comments on any subject of interest.
As used on the
www.poweredbyinstinct.com website, Kathy's Journal is
a vehicle for sharing her current thinking and focus on
a variety of topics.
For instance, this week you'll see many cogent and
passionate comments on the current practice of using
medication as an early intervention with so-called ADD
and ADHD kids. If you'd like to follow or participate in
this discussion, please check out the site. Here's a
comment from Kathy to provoke some
discussion: "Drugging kids so they conform to
standardized behaviors is child
abuse."

The Misunderstood Facilitator
It's hard for most adults to understand their Facilitator
Natural Advantage™, let alone a youngster faced with a
5555 MO. Initially thinking that he had no real
strengths, this young man wasn't keen to embrace the
results. However, when he understood that
his
strength was the ease with which he switched roles
and avoided depleting his energy in any one mode, he
could soon articulate his advantages in his own
language. So, here they are straight from the
Facilitator's own mouth:
"In football, I'm the guy who does all the blocking for
the quarterback so he can make the touchdown." (And
then he added, "so he can get all the glory"). "In a
rock band, I'm a backup player who solves the problem
when one band member wants to do the piece with an
electric guitar and another thinks they should perform
with acoustic guitars. And I'm the one to bring them
together for the performance."
Those of us blessed with a midrange response in any
mode get to play the important bridge role between
others who need to initiate action and prevent
problems in that mode. To provide the
balance in this
way can be a satisfying experience, particularly when
others recognize our contribution. Bridging is
the
natural role of a Facilitator, but it's up to those of us
trained in Kolbe applications to make sure the
quarterbacks of the world recognize that no
touchdowns get scored without someone clearing the
way.
