Gino Wickman built an entrepreneurial empire, and he did it while finding the freedom to be himself.
Gino Wickman is the founder of EOS® Worldwide, which helps hundreds of thousands of companies thrive. He’s a bestselling author of many books and a successful entrepreneur who has dedicated his life to helping other entrepreneurs also find results.
But such levels of success don’t come without some big “lightbulb moments”, and one of Gino’s epiphanies came from an interaction over 25 years ago, before he even founded EOS or published any books.
It was when he took the Kolbe A™ Index and discovered his instinctive strengths for the first time.
FINDING YOUR TRUE SELF
“I’m a Kolbe fanatic,” Wickman told Kolbe Corp President Amy Bruske on an episode on Powered by Instinct. “I took it in my late twenties and I just fell in love with it because it defined me better than anything I’d found. I mean, it was just so powerful and so free.”
Wickman discovered that his MO, his natural way of taking action, is 4-6-8-3.
“My 8 Quick Start and my 6 Follow Thru is unusual when it comes to Visionaries,” Wickman continued, “because typically the Follow Thru follow is lower for 95 % of the driven entrepreneurs I work with. They are those Visionaries with that 8, 9, 10 Quick Start, and more often a 1, 2, or 3 Follow Thru.”
What that generally means is that Wickman is someone who, as Bruske explained to him, “will take your ideas and thoughts and you’ll put it into some kind of a system or a process. And that’s certainly what you’ve done with EOS, is you created a system that’s revolutionary for entrepreneurs. And with your 4 in Fact Finder, you’ve done it in a way where it’s really simplified.”
SEEING PATTERNS AND TRENDS
Back when Wickman first got his result, Kolbe would send a cassette tape with the result (audio from Kathy Kolbe is now available in the online Kolbe A Index report), and Wickman had many breakthroughs listening to the explanations of his strengths.
“Listening to Kathy describe my Kolbe, it was amazing because she said something that has stuck with me forever and I realize it’s how and why I’ve created all the content that I’ve created,” Wickman explained. “She said that I have the ability to see patterns and trends. And so, as I look back on my life, that’s all that has happened. I get so entrenched in the work that I’m doing that I can see all the patterns and trends. And out of that bubbled all of the tools in EOS.”
Now, one of those invaluable resources used by EOS is Kolbe.
“Kolbe is your true self, and your true self is Kolbe,” Wickman beamed. “As I said, I’m a Kolbe fanatic. I made every one of my clients take a Kolbe, and it is now one of the 20 tools in the EOS toolbox. And so, we’ve now had tens of thousands of people take Kolbe because of its power.”
THE SIMPLICITY OF SUPPORTING YOUR STRENGTHS
Learning about that Fact Finder strength was also a revelation for Wickman.
“Growing up, being a 3 in Fact Finder and having to sit at the dinner table and justify all of your decisions and quote your sources and debate politics was tough. And when I got my Kolbe result for the first time and heard Kathy, it was the first time that anyone had said that was a strength.”
Sometimes, those assurances matter as much as anything.
“Kolbe is determining your true self in this work,” Wickman clarified. “It’s like the soul of the human being. I really believe it goes that deep and it’s really showing you where you naturally put your instincts and your energy. This is all about energy, true self, and the soul. That’s what Kolbe measures. And for those of us that are driven, it’s real.”
