More than 40% of workers say they spend more than a quarter of their workweek —roughly one full workday— working against their natural style.
This is just one of the many breakthroughs announced in the newly released Workplace Reality Report, a survey of 1,000+ professionals focused on their current work experiences.
Workers were asked about stress, energy, retention, and productivity as it relates to their jobs, and the findings were significant.
The main culprit for these alarming statistics? According to the survey, it’s all that time professionals spend forcing tasks that fight how they naturally take action. It’s called misfit work, and it is a real problem.
Imagine if your workers just weren’t coming in on Mondays, but you thought they were. That’s the scale of lost capacity from misfit work. But it’s not just productivity that suffers.
The report also found that workers spending 25% or more of their week misaligned are 1.5× more likely to be actively considering leaving their role.
And here’s the kicker: task fit is nearly as important as compensation—and for some workers, it matters MORE.
This is potentially great news for you! When organizations assign work based on HOW people naturally operate – not just job titles – good things happen. (Check out page 10 of the report to see the incredible impact this has on energy retention, sustainable stress levels, and job hunting. The numbers are undeniable!)
What this means for you: There are clear steps leaders can take to deliver for their employees and their bottom line. And the first step…is reading the report.
